Munster-Kreutzen: Potato Trail (13.7 km circular walking trail)

©Partner der Lüneburger Heide GmbH

From the 1950s the district around the small heath locality of Trauen was the Research Centre for Potato Cultivation Techniques and thus a prominent area for cultivating potatoes.

Right here, where the headquarters of the research centre was located, you will learn everything there is to know about the nutritious potato on the 13.7 km-long potato trail. On your way round you will repeatedly come across interesting information boards that will clearly explain the development and significance of the cultivation of potatoes.

The potato trail is a very picturesque route linking the Heath villages of Trauen, Dethlingen and Kreutzen as well as the abandoned locality of Sültingen, which is situated on the South Münster military training area.

Look forward to cool deciduous woods and extensive pine forests, to typical areas of heath with large juniper bushes and birches with white trunks and, of course, to large fields of potato and cereal crops. Particularly beautiful is the "Valley of the little Örtze" – a nature reserve based around the Heath´s river, the Little Örtze.
