Celle: French Garden

The French Garden in Celle is a public park in the south of the historic city of Celle. Running parallel to both sides of a straight linden alley as an east-west axis, it includes flowerbeds, lawns, groups of trees and a pond with a fountain.

Its current appearance is no longer that of a French garden, but that of an English landscape park.

Built around the end of the 17th century as a Baroque court and pleasure garden by the French gardeners Perronet and Dahuron, the complex was given its present appearance from the middle of the 19th century in accordance with designs created by Garden Inspector Schaumburg.

The French Garden is meanwhile a protected garden monument.
