Langlingen: St. Johanniskirche
Langlingen

Historic ceiling paintings from the 17th century
A surprising cultural treasure can be found in tranquil Langlingen: St. John's Church with its extraordinary ceiling paintings.St. Johanniskirche in Langlingen was built in 1335 and has undergone constant structural changes over the centuries.
During renovation work, craftsmen uncovered a precious painting on the wooden vaulted ceiling. This dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and depicts various scenes with angels and other biblical motifs. Until this time, the painting was covered with plaster. This painting is quite surprising, as you would not expect to see such a treasure trove of art in the church from the outside.
The altar and baptismal font are also lovingly maintained, and there are further paintings in the niches.
The Langlingen parish is a lively congregation. Whether it's Harvest Thanksgiving, the village museum's action days or the country women's festival, the church is always there. Baptism services on the River Aller and the torchlight procession at Christmas are typical of Langlingen.
Another special feature is the patronage of the neighboring Mylius family of landowners since 1827, which is still held today. The patronage was passed on from the predecessor von Spoerken family to the Mylius family. As a result, the family also has its own seats in a patronage box above the congregation in the church, which are still occupied.
