Rethem (Aller)

The gate to Bremen
This
small town lies amidst extensive forests and moors and is proud of its 650-year
history.
The
new culture and event centre, the Burghof Rethem (Rethem Castle
Courtyard), is located directly on the Aller River. A great variety of events
and exhibitions take place here. Many artists come back to perform here again
and again.
In
the Londypark, the Bockwindmühle (Bock Windmill) dating from 1593
and the Skulpturenpark (Sculpture Park) with works by the sculptor
Norbert Thoss are both well worth seeing. The historical windmill has recently
been restored to its former glory.
The
nature trail around Rethem invites you to improve your knowledge of the
landscape along the rivers Alpe, Wölpe and Aller. In Rethem, water sports are a
focus, with many different activities on offer.
The
town hall, a half-timbered building dating from 1792, served as a courthouse
and office building until 1850.
The
Marienkirche (Marien Church) in Rethem was designed by the famous church
builder Hellner and was consecrated in 1839. You can rely on the church being
open from 10 am to 4 pm from April to September.
A
magnificent tree-lined avenue leads from Rethem directly into the centre of Kirchwahlingen
and to an ancient fortified church dating from 985. The church tower
dates from the 12th century and is made of boulders and bog iron. You can rely
on the church being open from 10 am to 4 pm from April to September.
