Moisburg Mill Museum
Moisburg

In Moisburg Mill Museum, the former Council Water Mill (Amtswassermühle), visitors can experience traditional mill grinding techniques first hand. The mill is one of the last fully functional water mills.
Moisburg’s Council Water Mill was built in 1723. However, a mill was already mentioned there in the 14th century. Today the Mill Museum displays the working and living conditions in the mill during the 1930s. Over the last 100 years new forms of energy like steam, diesel, and electricity have replaced old wind and water mills to a great extent. In Moisburg, the heavy mill-wheel still turns on several days of the month.
Discover and experience local mill history in our exhibition. Children are invited to grind grain into flour using various hand mills. In the museum’s café inside the mill you can enjoy the rustic atmosphere of the old building over coffee and mill cake or freshly baked mill bread.
Our special feature:
The heavy mill-wheel turns every Saturday and Sunday from May until October. Millstone grinding takes place every first and third Sunday of the month, as well as on Whit Monday from 2 to 4 pm. Look over the miller’s shoulder and watch him working.
