Route of the hiking loop

The short tour on the hiking loop W1 is 4.7 km long and encompasses the largest heath area in the region. It offers a broad view of the Suedheide countryside.

The famous juniper forest lies behind a small copse of spruce trees. The route cuts through the heaths of the Ahrensriethe back to the point of departure. 

The short tour is indicated by a small green circle in addition to the pictogram shown here.

Directions to the juniper forest car park

You can reach the car park next to the juniper forest near Schmarbeck from Mueden (Oertze) on the L 280 travelling towards Unterluess. Take a left turn just outside of Hankenbostel towards Schmarbeck and the juniper forest (Wachholderwald).
