On this "Dreamy pond meets mystical moor" bike tour, totalling 42 kilometres, Ahlftener Flatt heathland pond and the over 8,000 years old Pietzmoor are the natural highlights. Get on your bike and get enchanted by these special natural sites.

Your bike tour starts in Soltau-Therme car park. From here you cycle on the road "In den Hübeeten" and through the Röders Park towards Ahlften Flatt.

Ahlften Flatt is a heathland pond. These are usually shallow waters. If you look at the pond, you really want to take off your shoes and stroll barefoot on the shore of the pond through the cool water. Ahlften Flatt was formed from a wind-blown hollow from the last ice age. A bike ride or a walk to this heathland pond is worthwhile in every season. In the spring the trees around the Flatt shine in an intense green, in autumn the foliage shines golden yellow, and in winter the hoarfrost enchants the trees with the fresh, cool winter air. Ahlften Flatt is also very popular with birdwatchers. That is because, with a little luck, you can see rare water birds here.

Via Ellingen, Reimerdingen and Wickhorst you can cycle to the over 8.000 years old Pietzmoor, which is part of the car-free Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve. Pietzmoor is one of the most popular excursion destinations of the Heidjer and is recommended at any time of the day. Early in the morning, when the sun rises, during the day, when walkers are on the boardwalks, or in the evening, when light mist forms over the dark bog water.

In spring, the bog is extremely desirable for all nature lovers. It is the mating season of the moor frogs, where the males turn blue to impress the females. And it is the time of cotton grass blossom, where white cotton balls are reflected in the dark bog water.

Pietzmoor is also the habitat of rare animal and plant species. Sundew, numerous species of dragonfly, moor frog, teal and adder reside here.

The return trip leads through Hof Möhr. At Hof Möhr you can see how the former peasant women created and used their gardens. Symmetrical beds for vegetables, perennials and herbs are framed with a boxwood fence. But you can also discover other special features at Hof Möhr, such as an organic water treatment plant, a meadow orchard, a nest box wall, and a historical roller from the time of Napoleon. The Alfred Toepfer Academy for Nature Conservation (NNA) has its headquarters here at Hof Möhr. It is an institution of the state of Lower Saxony and its area of responsibility includes research, education, and public relations in nature conservation.

From Hof Möhr you cycle through the villages of Heber, Surbostel and Wolterdingen and then along the Böhme heathland stream back to your starting point, the heath town of Soltau.
