Brunausee – a 70,000 m² lake – lies in an idyllic wooded area on the outskirts of Behringen, on the road from Bispengen.

The lake is surrounded by roughly 3 km of hiking paths. There is a bay on the south side of the lake, complete with a sandy beach and a children’s playground.

This part of the lake is perfect for bathing and swimming. Pedaloes, which are rented out by the Seeterrasse Restaurant, are also tied up to the jetty in the bay. Rubber dinghies can also be used on the lake. Access to the lake is free; however, there are no lifeguards. Visitors may use the toilets in the Seeterrasse Restaurant.

The local fishing club, Anglerverein Bispingen, offers fishing in other parts of the lake. Fishing permits are issued by the Tourist Office in Behringen (Verkehrsverein Behringen), Bispingen Tourist Office, and the Kiebitzmarkt in Bispingen. The fishing season runs from 15 April to 15 October.

The Café/Restaurant Seeterrasse is located next to the bay and beach, affording guests a wonderful view across the lake.

The annual Behringer Seefest takes place on the first weekend in August and is popular with locals, as well as visitors from further afield. The highlight of the festival is the ‘illuminated water display’ – put on by Behringen’s volunteer fire department – which is followed by a wonderful firework show. The two-day festival offers a diverse line-up of events on the shores of the lake as well as on the lake itself.

quad track, just a stone’s throw away from the lake, is open daily between April and October.
