Mueden (Oertze): Haußelberg Hill - heathlands with beautiful views

 Some particularly beautiful heathlands stretch around the 118 m high “Hausselberg” near Mueden (Oertze) in the Suedheide Nature Park.

Unique view

Starting on the hiker car park, after about 30 minutes’ walk you will reach a little mountain hut offering you a marvellous view to enjoy the varied landscape.

A mountain with history

The German astronomer and physicist Karl-Friedrich Gauss used Hausselberg Hill in 1828 as a measuring point for the land survey ordered by the royal house of Hanover. You can find an imitation of the “Gauss' stone” when traversing the “mountain ridge”. We recommend the bicycle track "En route to Gauss' survey points" to follow the steps of this great mathematician.

Hiking paradise Suedheide

Discover Hausselberg Hill by foot. Start at the hiker car park “Gerdehaus”, which, with its barbecue and playground area, invites you to take a break in natural surroundings for a while. Past the heathlands of the north slope, the spatially close co-existence of heath and pine forests shows the aspiration of the forest to conquer the heath. On the hillside the path meets with wide heathlands. Clearly signposted bicycle and hiking tracks lead through the whole area. The so-called “Heidschnuckenweg” (moorland sheep trail), voted as Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2014, also passes through this area.
